Transfer Admissions Requirements

In the fall of 2008, the University of South Florida St. Petersburg implemented a new series of requirements for the admissions of undergraduate transfers.   This new admissions policy redefines the types of undergraduate applications that we can consider.  These classifications of undergraduate transfer applications include:

  1. We will consider applications from students who have completed between 36 and 59 credit hours of transferrable college credit and who have earned a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on all transferrable coursework.  These students must still submit high school transcripts and qualifying standardized test scores (ACT or SAT).
  2. We will consider applications from students who have earned an Associates of Arts  or an articulated Associate in Science degree from institutions within the Florida community college system
  3. We will consider applications from students who have completed at least 60 credit hours of transferrable coursework but have not earned Associate of Arts Degrees from institutions within the Florida community college system.  To be considered for admissions, these applicants must have earned a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA on all transferrable coursework

Please note:  meeting the minimum requirements for admissions does not guarantee admission to the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.  Moreover, students who are admitted to USF St. Petersburg and wish to take courses on the Tampa campus must meet the admissions requirements for USF Tampa.  These requirements are available at http://usfweb2.usf.edu/admissions/transfer_reqs.htm.

In addition to the above requirements, transferring applicants must meet the entry GPA requirements for the majors that they select on their applications for admission.   Applicants to these limited access programs may be denied admission the University if they do not meet specific program requirements.  Before submitting an application, please note the following:

  1. To be considered for admission into majors within the USFSP’s College of Business and College of Education, transferring applicants must have earned a minimum 2.50 GPA on all transferrable coursework
  2. To be considered for admission into USFSP’s Mass Communications majors, applicants must have earned a minimum 2.75 GPA on all transferrable coursework
  3. To be considered for admission into the Graphic Design major, applicants must have earned a minimum 2.5 GPA on all transferrable coursework
  4.  To be considered for majors that do not have enhanced GPA requirements, applicants must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA on all transferrable coursework, and applicants must be in good standing at their last institutions of higher education

The University of South Florida can consider only one application per student.  To be considered for admission to the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, applicants must specify St. Petersburg as their home campus.  After submitting their applications, students can change their home campus by completing the “update application form” available at the following web page: http://www.stpete.usf.edu/admissions/forms.htm.  Students do not have to submit separate applications or additional application fees.  To complete the application process, students must submit:

  • An application for admission
  • A nonrefundable, $30.00 application fee
  • An official transcript from each college or university attended
  • A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) may be required for applicants whose native language is not English

In addition to the above documents, applicants who have earned less than 60 transferrable credit hours must also submit official copies of high school transcripts and standardized test scores (SAT or ACT).
