How to Edit The Left Navigation Bar
All local navigation (left navigation bar) on the USFSP web site use the same format so that it is consistant and familiar to our visitors.
Web Design Hint: Consistancy is important because it makes navigating a site easier for visitors.
To create a button link (page link):
- Create a new page in Contribute.
Create a new page tutorial: http://www.stpt.usf.edu/advancement/../advancement/contribute/pages.htm
- Name this page (File name) whatever you want the button link to be:
Example: You want a button for "Staff Directory". Name the page file "staff_directory".
Remember: the server does not like spaces use a "_" for a space.
- Submit a helpdesk request ( http://www.usfsp.org/helpdesk )to update your left navigation, cite the button name and the page file it should link to:
Example:
"I have created a new page "staff_directory.htm" located in the HR website and I need a button link for this page added to my left navigation. The button should be placed just below the "About Us" button."
To create a drop down (directory):
- Follow the create a directory/folder tutorial: http://www.stpt.usf.edu/advancement/../advancement/contribute/folder.htm
- Name this directory whatever you want the drop down to be:
Example: You want a drop down for "Early Requirements". Name the page file "early_requirements".
- Now you can place pages into the new directory/folder and establish button links. (See above to create a button link in this new directory/folder.
