Anthropology

WHAT IS ANTHROPOLOGY? If you are excited by other ways of life, if you are attracted by the exotic and the unknown, or if you want to discover your own cultural roots, if you want to understand the evolution of biological human nature, if archaeological digs appeal to you, if you are willing to see the world from another's point of view, you may find an intellectual home in anthropology.

But what is anthropology? The word itself tells the basic story--from the Greek anthropos (human being) and logia (science), it is nothing less than the scientific study of humankind, from its beginnings millions of years ago to the present day.

CAREER PATHS IN ANTHROPOLOGY: University teaching; consulting with local and international agencies; helping the Census Bureau get accurate counts of homeless people; helping a third world country merge traditional and western based medical systems; showing a medical school how to provide care to a multicultural community; serving as a congressional aide on cultural issues. These are just some of the varied jobs that anthropologists have.

USFSP offers a BA degree in Anthropology. Our campus currently offers all the required coursework needed to complete a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in the USF system. Our class sizes are small to ensure that you receive a quality education with faculty who have the time to ensure your interests are met. Our faculty stress the four-field approach to anthropology emphasizing equally cultural, biological, linguistic, and archaeological studies, with particular geographical interests in Latin America and Africa.
