CPA-MBA:  A POWERFUL COMBINATION

The MBA Program at USF St. Petersburg allows students to complete the Florida CPA educational requirements for licensure while earning an MBA degree.  This unique opportunity provides Accounting students the chance to obtain their “additional 30 hours beyond the bachelor’s degree” as required by Florida statutes for CPA licensure while earning their MBA degree from an internationally ranked program.

“This has been a popular route for our Accounting students,” said David Walker, Director of the Program of Accountancy at USF St. Petersburg.  “In addition to Forensic Accounting and other graduate accounting courses, these students are earning their MBA degrees and preparing themselves for leadership and top management positions.”

Demand for employees who posses the skill-set of a candidate with MBA and CPA credentials continues to grow.  David Walker remarked, “Top accounting and consulting firms that seek the best and brightest are recruiting students from our MBA Program, and other employers are getting in line as well.”

In 2008, the Florida legislature revised the law governing eligibility to become a licensed CPA in Florida.  The new legislation allows students to take the CPA exam after completing their bachelor’s degree, but does not change the education requirements for licensure as a CPA in the state.  Students who are interested in becoming CPAs in Florida still need the additional 30 hours to meet the education requirements for licensure.  For further information on the Program of Accountancy at USF St. Petersburg, see www.stpt.usf.edu/poa, or contact David Walker at dfwalker@stpt.usf.edu.

Prospective students are encouraged to vivit out campus and experience first hand what it is like to attend our MBA Program. During a visit to our campus you may attend an MBA class, meet with current students, discuss the program with the MBA Director or take a tour of the College of Business.
