Minority Teacher Education Scholarship (MTES)

The primary purpose of this scholarship program is to recognize select minority community college graduates and beginning education majors who are pursuing education careers in Florida public schools.

goGeneral Eligibility Criteria:
Selected individuals must:

  • Be a member of one of the following minority groups: African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaskan Native students.
  • Be a resident of the State of Florida.
  • Have earned 60 credit hours or an AA degree.
  • Be newly admitted into a teacher education program at USF St. Petersburg.
  • Have not exceeded 18 hours of upper division education courses at the time of application (discuss with primary contact listed below).
  • Complete the application packet and return to contact person on or before deadline date.

goScholarship Awards:

  • Annual amount of the Minority Teacher Education Scholarship is $4,000.
  • Awards are disbursed during the Fall (September) and Spring (February) semesters, $2,000 per semester.
  • May be eligible to receive the scholarship for two years.

goScholarship Conditions:

  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress (2.5 grade point average and full-time enrollment).
  • Attend the annual Recruitment and Retention Conferences.
  • Upon graduation, scholarship recipients are required to teach one year in a Florida school for each year the scholarship was received.
  • Visit the official Florida Funds for Teachers website listed below for additional criteria.

goScholarship Application:

  • Download the application from the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers website at http://www.ffmt.org.
  • Submit application on or before August 15th for Fall semester and November 15th for Spring semester.
  • Deliver completed application to the contact person listed below in the College of Education Office, Coquina Hall 201.
