Computer Lab Rules & Policies

Overview

Computer labs are provided for students to complete course work related to their studies at the University of South Florida. Students found to be using lab facilities for purposes other than related course work or communication will be asked to leave the lab. Please read the lab policies for additional information.

Computers at the labs are configured to provide a specific suite of application software that meets the needs of most students. The lab is not equipped to support all commercially available software. Students are not allowed to load personal software on computer hard drives. Playing computer games that are not course work related is not allowed. Students playing computer games will be asked to close the game and leave the lab. Please be considerate of others that need to do college assignments and adhere to these policies.

Students are required to provide their own writable CDs or DVDs. The lab does not provide students with blank media. USB flash drives may be brought in and used.


Lab Schedules

Bayboro Hall 226 & 227 will be available during all lab hours of operation.


Closing Procedure

All labs will close at the closing time specified in our hours of operation. Users will be reminded at least 10 minutes prior to closing, allowing them time to send documents to the printer and to save their work. No student will be allowed to stay in the labs after closing.


Foods or Drinks

Foods or drinks will not be allowed in any computer lab. Unopened containers of foods or drinks, cans or cups, will not be allowed in the computer labs unless they are stored in a book bag, purse, brief case, or other carrying case. Students with food or a drink will be asked to leave the lab.


Lab Assistants

Our lab technicians are trained to provide basic help to lab users. They are able to help you start your applications, offer help with printing, restarting computers and applications. They can provide general information on Windows. Lab technicians are not trained to debug programs, analyze output or assist with homework. Please consult your T/A, or professor for this type of help.


Lab Telephone

The telephone in the lab is not a courtesy phone. Lab users are not to receive calls in the labs.


PC Configuration

Students are not allowed to reconfigure or install programs on the computers or printers located in the lab. Storing unauthorized software on the lab computers is not allowed. Students are not authorized to plug/unplug cables from the rear of computers. Printing

  • Black & white printouts cost five cents per page.
  • Color printouts cost 30 cents per page.
  • Printers are provided for bona-fide course work only. Paper substitution is not allowed.
  • Reprints are available free of charge for printer jams. We are not responsible for variations in color.
  • Refunds are not available.

Self Help & Documentation

A limited amount of documentation is available in the lab. Most programs have a "Help" menu option, and online help, such as searching Google, is encouraged. Users are required to show a valid USF identification card. No other form of identification may be substituted. Documentation is for lab use only and is not to be taken out of the lab. Documentation for most applications is available for purchasing at the University Book Store, Bayboro Books, or any other book stores in the area.
